Get ready--but don't start yet.
Watering schedules are in effect May 1 - Sept. 30 but that doesn't mean you should turn on your irrigation systems yet. According to the Farmer’s Almanac, which is based on National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), Castle Rock’s average last frost date is May 13--and our ag professionals at CSU Extension Office tout May 22. This tells us that temperatures can and typically reach below freezing up until this date. What this means for your yard, is that our plants, lawns and soil are still in winter mode this month. Generally, it is recommended not to plant or irrigate until after this date to prevent any damage to plants, roots and irrigation systems from the potential cold weather.
